Northern Youth Abroad

A program that seeks to foster cross-cultural awareness, individual career goals, and international citizenship in Northern youth.  It enables youth aged 15 to 22 living in Nunavut and the Northwest Territories to acquire professional skills and training, hands on work experience, and high school credits through a cross cultural work and learning experience in southern Canada and abroad.  They promote leadership development, healthy self-confidence and self-esteem by providing life-changing experiences.  For more information go to www.nya.ca.
 

Students On Ice

Students On Ice (“SOI”) is an award-winning organization offering unique educational expeditions to the Antarctic and the Arctic. Their mandate is to provide students, educators and scientists from around the world with inspiring educational opportunities at the ends of the Earth and, in doing so, help them foster a new understanding and respect for the planet.  For more information go to www.studentsonice.com .

In 2011, Stornoway sponsored Kayleigh Spencer, a 15 year old from Mistissini to go on the trek to Canada’s Arctic.
 

Minalliance

Minalliance is an organization that brings together the Québec Mineral Exploration Association (AEMQ) and the Québec Mining Association (QMA), as well as companies involved in mine exploration, operation and services, equipment suppliers, and financial institutions. The mandate of Minalliance is to make the general public more aware of the mineral industry and to highlight the industry’s contribution to the growth of Québec and its regions, integrating economic, social and environmental aspects.  For more information go to www.minalliance.ca.
 

Centraide (United Way) Abitibi-Témiscamingue Nord-du-Québec

Centraide - United Way is a worldwide organization that aims “to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good”.

Centraide Abitibi-Témiscamingue Nord-du-Québec campaigns raise money for local groups that address community issues and problems primarily focused on poverty, homelessness, and families or individuals in crisis or need, in partnership with social, community, and economic organizations on the territory.

Stornoway is proud to be the sponsor/partner of Centraide Abitibi-Témiscamingue Nord-du-Québec for the annual Golf Tournament, an event that launches the annual fundraising campaign in Northern Québec.  In this year’s edition of the Stornoway Golf Tournament for the benefit of Centraide held September 1, 2011, Centraide and Stornoway raised $18,111.  The objective for the 2011-2012 campaign is to raise $25,000 in Northern Québec.
